Hmong Women’s Way of Giving Birth

I like to tell about how Hmong women live that give birth of a child in Thailand and Laos look like. I had been helping my mother by the way, that prepare the piece of cloth and get the warn water for her when she gave birth to my young sisters and brothers.  Also, I had killed some chicken for she eaten before she gave birth too. Then she won strong and have mike when the baby was born. After that the baby was born, and I had to wash my mother clothes and also the baby too.

When our mother and father brought us into the world, they tore up cloth and wrapped us in it. Our mother gave birth, not on a bed, but on the ground. Our parents had a bed, but it was high, and they were afraid the baby would fall off and get hurt. They put a blanket next to the bed, and the mother gave birth on it. We did not have any doctors then. When the baby was born, the other women were helping out mother would pick it up and washing it. Our mother would then get up to change her clothes, come back into the room, take the baby in her arms, and breast-feed it. We did not have any dairy milk where we lived.    

Three days after a baby was born. Parents would give him or her name. Before naming the baby, however, they would kill some chickens and maybe a pig and have a feast. We did like this way, because from our culture that we believe, but now we do not use it so much. Just some still doing this way because they are in the old religion and also, some people are in Thailand and Laos.    

So now we have doctor and have live difference from that way, but however, still some of our women out there don’t have good doctor. They would have the same life like that, and you do not have to learn like this in here. But I just hope you will understand my experience, and knowing the other women live.
